“Six years shall you sow your field, and six years shall you prune your vineyard and gather in the produce thereof.  But in the seventh years shall be a Sabbath of solemn rest for the land, a Sabbath unto the Lord; you shall neither sow your field nor prune your vineyard.”

- Hebrew Scriptures, Leviticus 25: 1-5

“For Jews, the environmental crisis is a religious challenge. As heirs to a tradition of stewardship…we cannot accept the escalating destruction of our environment and its effect on human health and livelihood.”

Judaism believes that the universe is the work of the creator.  Love of God includes love of all God’s creations:  the inanimate, plants, animals and humans.  Judaism is about the loving and faithful Covenant devotion to one God who revealed Divine Teaching through the Patriarchs and Matriarchs, through Moses and the Prophets and Sages whose spirituality is documented in the 22 books of the Hebrew Bible; it is  characterized as a religion of deed by which human beings are to respond to God teaching.
