“May the herbs and plants be as sweet as also the nights and dawns. May the earth and its soil be full of sweetness. May our Father, may the haven be sweet. May the plants, the sun and the cows (and animals) be full of sweetness in our life.”

- Rig Veda I-90, 6--8

“These days it looks as if human beings have forgotten that a particular natural condition on Earth enabled life to come into existence and evolve to the human level. Humanity is disturbing this natural condition on which his existence, along with the existence of all other forms of life, depends.”

  - Swami Vibudhesha Teertha, from Faith in Conservation by Martin Palmer with Victoria Finlay, published by the World Bank, 2003

Hinduism, the oldest and perhaps most complex of the ling historical world religions encompasses an entire civilization and way of life, whose roots date back prior to 3000BCE, beyond the peoples of the Indus Valley culture. Hinduism teaches that all living beings are sacred because they are parts of God and should be treated with respect and compassion.  It asks its followers to see God in every object in the Universe.
