Patricia Siemen, O.P., J.D.

Patricia Siemen is a Dominican Sister from Adrian, Michigan, and a civil attorney. She currently serves as the director of the Center for Earth Jurisprudence, a collaborative initiative cosponsored by Barry and St. Thomas universities. Previous positions Sister Pat has held include coordinator of the Healing the Earth Center at the Institute of Pastoral Ministry, St. Thomas University; director of the Earth Ethics Institute at Miami Dade College (2001 - 04), engaging students and staff in programs and workshops in Earth Literacy; staff attorney at the United States Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division; and legal services attorney for migrant farm workers in South Florida. Sister Pat has also served in community organizing with the African-American community in rural Tennessee, in the parish ministry with the Latino community and elementary education, and in her Dominican Sisters’ Congregational leadership from 1988 - 98. She holds a Juris Doctor from Northeastern University School of Law, Boston; a Master in Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Austin; and a Master in Culture and Spirituality from Holy Names University, Oakland, California. Her B.A. is in History and Political Science from Siena Heights University, Adrian, Michigan.


       
 

Mary Munson, M.P., J.D., LL.M.

Prior to joining the CEJ, Mary served as deputy general counsel for the National Parks Conservation Association, a position that involved oversight of national litigation protecting national parks and providing legal advice on federal, state and local environmental and land use laws involving National Parks. Mary’s extensive professional experience includes work as a legal associate for Defenders of Wildlife and as a senior wildlife campaigner for Greenpeace, U.K. She holds a Juris doctor from the College of William and Mary, Virginia; a master’s degree in urban and environmental planning as well as a master’s degree in environmental sciences from the University of Virginia; and an LL.M. from the University of London.

 
       
  Margaret Galiardi, O.P.

Margaret is a member of the Dominican sisters of Amityville. Her ministries have included teaching grade school, working in parishes, coordinating programs for homeless persons, and working in multiple areas of social justice both nationally and internationally. Margaret served as the co-promoter of justice for North America for the worldwide Dominican order; this entailed membership on the Dominican International Commission for Justice, Peace, and the Integrity of Creation. Margaret focuses her attention on the inner state of consciousness that has generated our current state of global imbalance. In this regard she is working in the area of earth-based and eco-spirituality. She served as staff person for ecological concerns at Siena Spirituality Center in Water Mill, N.Y. In this capacity she published her first book, “Encountering Mystery in the Wilderness: One Woman’s Vision Quest.” Currently Margaret serves as associate director of Homecoming, an organization committed to the understanding that the human and the natural world are one sacred community. She also works as program consultant with the Center for Earth Jurisprudence, where she brings her gifts of theological reflection to the work of creating social/cultural change that supports a re-envisioning of law and governance from the context of the larger universe story.

 
       
 

Nicole Gérard, Ph.D.

Nicole’s professional experience includes work as a legal consultant for Greenpeace International, European Unit; as a consultant for Fern, a European NGO advocating on forest issues; as an environmental educator for Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden; as editorial director of Miami Dade College; and as an editor for New Times newspaper. She holds a Ph.D. in European environmental law from the University of Edinburgh and a Master in International Affairs from Columbia University. She lives with her son, Rémy.

 
   

 

 
 

Jane M. Goddard, J.D.

After 20 years as a civil litigation paralegal, Jane returned to the academic world to earn her Master of Liberal Studies degree at Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida, and her law degree at Barry University School of Law, Orlando, Florida. While at Barry, she received the highest grade in seven classes and graduated as the valedictorian in May, 2008. Jane also served as the lead articles editor of the Barry Law Review, and her article, “Building the Cathedral: Sculpting a Part-Time Legal Education in a Double-Time World,” was published by the Barry Law Review in 2007. She was appointed as the co-chair of the Service Committee for the Women Lawyers Association and was named WLA’s Graduate of the Year for 2007 - 08. Jane is particularly interested in the archetypal relationships between human society and the natural world; her article, “The Persistent Pagan: The Green Man and the Green Knight,” was published in the Journal of Graduate Liberal Studies in 2001. With CEJ, Jane concentrates on education and outreach to lawyers and policymakers in the Central Florida community. Jane is a member of the Florida Bar.

 
       
 

Herman F. Greene, J.D., D.Min.

Herman Greene is a corporate, tax and securities attorney with Greene & Franklin, PLLC of Durham, N.C. He began his legal career with Shearman & Sterling, New York, N.Y., and later joined Mayer, Brown, & Platt (currently Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw), where he became a partner. In 1990 - 91 he served as director of public responsibility, American Express Company, also in New York. He returned to North Carolina in 1992. In addition to practicing law, he serves as president, Center for Ecozoic Studies (N.C.), program consultant, Center for Earth Jurisprudence (Fla.), and governing board member, International Process Network (Cal.). He graduated in 1979 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Law School, where he was research editor of the law review and a member of the Order of the Coif. He also holds degrees from United Theological Seminary (D.Min., 2004, Ministry), University of Chicago (M.Th. 1979 and M.Div. 1970, Ministry), Stanford University (M.A. 1967, Political Science), and the University of Florida (B.A. 1966, Political Science).

 
 

 

 
 

Carol Rauseo-Danclair

Carol Rauseo-Danclair was born in Trinidad, West Indies, and migrated to the USA 19 years ago. Carol joined CEJ in January, 2008, and brings to her role as executive assistant a wealth of professional experience obtained working in both the pharmaceutical and non-profit industries.
